Why the Fuss about Female Circumcision!
Well, many have called and asked why such a heavy article as Magic & Ritual Abuse: Female Circumcision in Central and West Africa and how does this relate to women drummers? The answer must be given in social and cultural context. We wrote earlier on the history of djebe drumming in America, and that the djembe came to popularity in the early to mid 70’s. Many Africans began teaching traditional drumming in the United States and later established drum camps in Africa frequented by many American and European students.

They said Odu must make sacrifice. She said she would not make ebo ( an offering) because the ebo was already made. The offering for woman to receive power was made in the presence of Olodumare. They said she must not become overconfident in joy because she is capable of using these powers for a very long time. The world will not be able to destroy that which she has in her hands. The world will not know the root of her power. Odu refused to make the sacrifice. Odu departed without making ebo. Osa Meji
